The name of Ecuador comes from its geographic location. It’s located in the middle of the world and it’s divided by the equatorial line. Noticeable climatic stations do not exist and is the reason why we have a spring climate throughout the year.
Ecuador is located in the northwest of South America in the coast of the Pacific Ocean; it is made up of four different geographic regions (Coast, Mountain range, Amazon Region and Insular Region).

Ecuador, even though of not having a great extension, is considered one of the countries with a greater diversity of flora and fauna in the world; in addition it has a great plurality of ethnic cultures which gives it the reasons that make the attraction of the country unique and interest the tourists so that they experience exclusive and varied sensations in short times of travel.

Ecuador is one of the seven countries with the greatest diversity that you will find anywhere in the world; you will be surprised to learn that in hardly 256,370 Km2 exist 10% of all the animal species and plants that exist in the planet. It has the greatest biodiversity by square kilometer in the world.

Beautiful, small, and diverse are three words which define Ecuador!

Coast (La Costa) – This region has more than 1000 kilometers of heavenly beaches bathed by the Pacific Ocean.
Its climate varies between 22 and 26º C. The sea current of the Boy (warm) and the sea current of Humboldt (cold) balance the climate and the pluvial precipitation of this region.

Andes Region (Sierra) –Andean valley is crossed from north to the south by the mountain range of Los Andes, here the volcanoes and snow-capped peaks give a diverse topography in this region. The Chimborazo, the National Park Cotopaxi, Tungurahua volcano (at the moment in activity), and the Cayambe are really emblematic symbols of the Country by their natural beauty. This region is located in Quito (capital of Ecuador) that has been declared by UNESCO for 30 years Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity to have a well-known historical center like Art’s Reliquary in America by its churches, museums, convents, traditions and history.

The climate of the Sierra is diversified; the temperature oscillates between 10 to 25º C due to the influence of the mountain range of Los Andes and to the winds that blow by valleys and plains.

Amazon Region (Oriente) – It is called jungle or rainforest region. The main tributaries rivers are born of the Amazonas River. Oriente has protected primary forests such as: the National Parks of Cuyabeno and Yasuní. This region is one of the greatest lungs of the world. The great biodiversity that has the Oriente reflects in the amount and variety of species animals and vegetables so that visitors can observe nature. To come into the forest, we need 20 minutes from Quito by air being in contact with monkeys, parrots, and a warm-humid climate with abundant precipitations. The temperature oscillates between 22 and 26º C.

Insular - Galapagos Islands or Enchanted Islands of volcanic source was declared Patrimony of the Humanity in 1979 and 6 years later was declared like Biosphere’s Reserve of the Planet by UNESCO; Galapagos is a unique place in the world surrounded by the fauna and exotic flora. Galapagos has different animals such as giant turtles, penguins, flamingos, iguanas, seals, marine wolves, and birds of beautiful colors are the examples of the friendly fauna that doesn’t go away from the visitor’s presence. These islands seem a magician place where the time stopped so we can admire them. Galapagos Islands have been referenced for studies of famous scientists like Charles Darwin, the theory’s creator of the “Evolution of the Species”. The Enchanted Islands are located approximately 1000 km. of the Ecuadorian coast. The flight is an hour and a half from Ecuador.

Although the Islands are located on the Equatorial Line, the temperature of the Islands varies enormously between the 7 and 32º C.

December to June are warm months and there is a hot and humid season that are ideal months to dive and to do snorkeling because the water has a pleasant temperature. From July to November it is cool. The average temperature of the year is 24º C. From July to September the climate is dry but fresh and the temperature of the water diminishes considerably and it is a great season to observe more aquatic life because the animals prefer the cold currents.
